Air Koehler 1s

Nike uses storytelling as a means of elevating Air Jordans from just sneakers to symbols of excellence, style, and aspiration. This project and conceptual Air Jordan Retro 1 collection pack, depicts the story and relationship of Michael Jordan and his close friend, driver, and concierge, George Koehler.

The two met at Chicago O'Hare Airport in 1984 upon Jordan's arrival for his first training camp with the Bulls. After recognizing Jordan from playing high school basketball with his brother Larry, Koehler offered to take Jordan to his hotel. At the time, Koehler had just started his limousine and coincidentally had a no-show. The rest was history.

While specific details about the limousine Koehler arrived at the airport with are not publicly documented, luxury transportation services in the 1980s commonly used Cadillac Fleetwood stretch limousines. Each shoe in the Air Jordan pack of four draws inspiration from various models of the 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood, incorporating stylistic elements such as texture and color.

The first concept depicted is inspired by the interior color pallete of an '84 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham with a faux George Koehler signature on the midsole. Browse the images below for other concepts within the collab pack.
